Dave's cousin Sandi posted this census on
her facebook page today.
It is from the 1940's
It shows Gertie's Grandmother on the top line.
I had no idea her name was Gertrude~
Her son Robert a.k.a. Uncle Bob is next,
Her daughter Florence, my children's GG is after him.
Under Florence are her children
Gertrude, my mother in law, her first born girl.
I loved this woman so very much.
She was a MOM to me.
When I was pregnant in 1981, I so wanted to name
my first born girl ~ Gertrude
and call her "Gertie"
Dave's Mother begged me NOT to do it.
She didn't much like her name.
Who knew she was named after her Grandmother?
I wish she were here to ask her about this~
I so would have pushed harder for the name, had I known.
I think Beckie would have loved having the same name as
her grammy Gert~ but I have never asked. so I am now.
How do you feel about that Beckie?

I still have an alter ego named "Gertie!" I would've rocked that name! I didn't know about the skip a generation name but it would've been neat to keep it going.

I have a tear in my eye thinking about Grandma Gert! She was one of the sweetest women ever! What a cool thing to find out! :0)
Love that name........like ET!!! She was one fabulous woman....so genuine, kind and giving....hmmm, reminds me of someone I know and lOVE!!
I think Gertie is cute! I am sure Beckie could have pulled off the name... I bet it's hard to imagine her with any other name though.
