Leaving on a ...

TRAIN! I am taking the AMTRAK home in the morning! You may wonder what Layla thinks about all that...

She is not happy about it at all! If she's not happy, just imagine how I am feeling... we are both miserable!!
This baby had a party on her pants today... cute little ruffles,
and little socks that say it all!
I spent the day snuggling her!
She is a Daddy's girls already! Layla hears Tegan voice and looks around to find his face!

Papa and I will be back in December! In the meantime, we will video chat with our newest gem and hear all the news of her milestones from her Mommy and Daddy!

Counting down the days...

I will be leaving Colorado on Saturday. I am preparing myself for the departure! How in the world will I be able to leave this sweet little ladybug of mine?
How will I leave my baby... holding his baby and his ever faithful dog Bo laying right by their side?
How will I leave this new little Mommy, who is a natural at being a new Mom? Kelley is so good with her precious little girl!
Watching her with her baby is so wonderful~
Watching Layla Lynn love her Mommy is so sweet! A pure and simple love!
Can you feel the love?
Last night I went up to my room and found this gift on my bed. It is a frame which reads...

Memories

We don't remember days,
We remember the moments.

In it is the picture I took myself, totally by accident. One of those "wasted" shots where you hold the camera yourself and snap away. I was trying to snap Layla's little face sleeping on my chest. This is the picture I ended up with... her little hand holding onto my cross. I posted the picture on my last post. I was so surprised to find it in this special frame. How very thoughtful of Kelley and Tegan. They understand how I am going to feel on Saturday. They get it~ I will miss them!!

Thank you Tegan and Kelley! You both have made me feel so very welcome in your home ~ Thank You for sharing these first weeks with Layla Lynn with me! I will cherish every "moment" I have had with all three of you! I love my Colorado Lesjaks!

Meme's Newest Gem...

She is so special!
Layla Lynn enjoying the little mobile on her swing!

Meme had a little photo shoot... surprise, surprise!

Just look... Layla even smiles for Meme!

A little hand holding my cross... she has captured my heart! I can't wait for her Papa to meet her!

Speaking of Dave~ I happen to see the email he sent to friends and just wanted to share it...

Hi all, Diana has left me for another woman- Layla Lynn Lesjak was born to Tegan and Kelley yesterday! Since Diana is on a plane already to help them out, I have been given the job of letting some of you know...... God help me! I'll apologize now for missing some.

Looks like it's a trifecta with the Murts and Wegry's. We'll all have to get together for a "coming out" party!

Anyway , Layla was 7lbs, 3 oz with blond hair-

Knowing Diana, her blog: memesgems.blogspot.com will have hundreds of pictures by this afternoon!

See you soon,

Dave

Left him for another woman? Ha!

My Best Friend is a ....

New Grandmother! Just look... Rick and Roxi are just the cutest new Gma and Poppy EVER! Little Levi came early and weighed in at 5 lbs-3ozs!

Levi Andrew Sonners was born on October 12, the same day as my newest gem, Layla!

Melissa and Jason are in love, Rick and Roxi are in their glory!

There is seriously nothing better than being a grandparent.

I am so happy for the Murts, who will be just the best grandparents.

Rick will share with Levi his knowledge about EVERYTHING~ Little Levi just might have to call the 5- 24 hour rule once in a while!! This is something Dave, Bob and Gary call Rick on, when they don't believe something Rick has told them!! He has to prove it's TRUE in 24 hours or he owes them $5 bucks each!! Levi could really fill his piggy bank up quick!!

And Roxi, well, here's the thing about Roxi. This grandma will spend endless hours listening to Levi, even more hours sharing stories about his Momma Mel, and showing him how to be the best person he can be! She will shower him with the gift of her love, and always, always be there for him!!

What a lucky little boy he is.

Melissa and Jason will have an even greater love for Mel's parents when they witness how much love Levi's grandparents show him... because there is NOTHING in the world better for a parent than the feeling that someone loves your child as much as you do!

God Blessed this new baby... don't you think?

Little Ladybug sends Sarah, Molly, Cayden and Mya a note!

Hi my little cousins.... look, I had pictures taken with my Mommy and Daddy.
Guess who took the pictures? That's right, it was MEME~ she had that camera in my little face all day long! Meme loves to take pictures!
I get a bath every day....
Daddy and Mommy both like to wash me up! They wash my hair too!
They are so careful by my belly button... remember Mya's?
Sometimes, I cry and cry during my bath! But just after I am all done...

I am so happy again!

Then Mommy said, "Let's go for a walk outside~ it's so nice out!" My Daddy said "SURE" so they put on my new sweater and hat that a friend made for me and put me into a stroller.

I did not like it one bit! It made me cry! Mommy said ... "shhh, sweet baby" I love my Mommy!
Bo went for a walk too! Sarah and Molly, do you remember how sunny it was in Colorado?
See, this is my neighborhood... I have a playground too! Remember you played on it when you came to Mommy and Daddy's house? Look... do you think I liked my walk?
Yes I did!!

I hope to see you soon! I love you all and I know you will love me too!

Kisses.... Kisses!

Florence, Italy~

Our second walking tour in Florence was with Paul, from The Original Walking Tours company again! We walked to the Piazza del Signoris once again ... Now remember, Michelangelos The David, sits in front of the Plazza del Vecchio...but it is only a copy. We had to travel to the Galleria dell Accademia to see the real thing. Can you take pictures there? NO, of course not. Here is a picture of a picture of The David. It was magnificent! We were told the story of how Michelangelo found the block of stone left behind a church, discarded because it was poor quality, and he asked permission to use it. Once he began sculpting, he found it to be somewhat damaged but he felt he could work around it. That is just what he did!! He made David to be a warrior, with large hands, a man who would kill with those hands. When you stand and look at The David, you will see that his hands are so out of proportion. They seem too big for the rest of his body. His head also looks larger. Standing on the right side of David, his left hand looks so large, yet when you move to the other side, it seems much more in proportion to his body.

Later I will show you where The David was originally going to put... way up high~ which is why Michelangelo had to make the hands so large. You needed to see them from afar..
More on that later...

The Statue of Fiore overlooks the square.
Audrey and Bonnie listening intently to Paul... Frankie, not so much!! She always finds my camera!
We walked through Florence and took in some local sites. We went to a little square that held a church and this building...
It is called the Plazza Del Limbo because when it was built, they discovered a baby cemetery beneath it. Notice the sign under the name plaque, it is showing how high water was on this building when Florence flooded in 1966. Remember that at all? The city officials choose not warn the people of Florence, thinking that it might cause a riot, instead many people lost valuables, including the Uffizi museum.

We walked and walked ...
We took pictures from the Ponte Vecchio!
And had our own pictures taken!

We passed such cute little cafes on the streets.

Here is the Pig... Put a coin on his tongue and you let it roll off. If it drops in one slot you will be back again next year...if not, you must try again!! Sounds like a scam for money to me!!!

See The David? Right in front of the Plazzo del Vecchio.
This is another copy of a statue, in front of the Loggia dei Lanzi.

Here is where The David was meant to be...
The Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore. It is breathtaking! You can climb to the top... if you dare!
Giotto designed this cathedral and everyone was amazed at his idea of a DOME.
The stone work is so beautiful. Pale pink and greens adorn the building, that just never seems to end!

We were in awe... You can almost see the height of this building in this photo! I could not manage to capture it!

Now, where was The David meant to be...
See the corner stone here on the level before the dome? David was meant to be placed up there. Lucky for us, he was much to heavy to hoist up there. No wonder Michelangelo had to make his hands seem so large. When we saw The David, there were 6 more projects by Michelangelo there. They were unfinished... men seeming to be rising out of stone. This was incredible to see!
When Michelangelo was called to paint the ceiling at the Sistine Chapel, he was disappointed, for sculpting was his true passion. He feared that no one would ever remember him for a ceiling painting... He was wrong. He is remembered. For Both.
